Caretaker of Volkswagens
Freccia Brothers Garage has been a cornerstone of Greenwich, Connecticut since 1922, when it was built from the ground up by the Freccia family as one of the first dealerships in Greenwich. For over a century, the shop became known not just as a garage, but as a landmark—where generations of locals brought their cars, swapped stories, and trusted the Freccia name.
In the 1960s, Freccia Brothers sat across from the legendary Malcolm Pray dealership, repairing the Volkswagens Pray sold. Customers flowed between both sides of the street, and this partnership cemented their reputation as the future go-to air-cooled specialists for Greenwich, the tri-state area, and beyond. The Freccia name soon became synonymous with trust, craftsmanship, and Volkswagen expertise.
Frank -4th generation - at the garage and his wife Tammie were known for packing all their kids into a red-and-white Volkswagen bus, often caravanning with a green Squareback when more room was needed. Their love of VWs became a family trademark, even showing up in elaborate Christmas cards that always featured the cars. Some of Guinevere’s earliest memories are tied to those moments—like sitting on her dad’s lap at the end of their street, steering his blue convertible Beetle home. Over the years, each of the Freccia children would eventually drive a vintage VW, making the cars not just transportation, but part of the family’s identity.
Until then, the Freccias were still working on everyday cars, but Guinevere - 5th generation - saw the need for a niche boutique business to be created. By 2014, a new chapter began: Frank Freccia III, along with his daughter Guinevere, leaned into their passion for Volkswagen and Porsche history, developing a reputation as air-cooled specialists. Their work attracted enthusiasts far beyond Greenwich, cementing the Freccia Brothers as experts in rare restorations, vintage mechanical work, and a culture that celebrates the soul of classic Volkswagens.
From 2014 to 2025, the garage thrived. Customers found not only technical excellence but a deep sense of community—where automotive history was preserved one engine at a time. Guinevere, balancing family heritage with her own entrepreneurial spirit, helped carry the Freccia Brothers legacy into the modern age, blending storytelling, advocacy, and a strong online presence to reach a wider audience.
But in 2025, the garage faced its greatest battle. Following a contested eviction brought on by internal family disputes, Freccia Brothers Garage was forced out of its historic Route 1 location—despite thriving business and loyal customers. Guinevere stepped forward, not only as a daughter and granddaughter determined to protect her family’s legacy, but also as a voice rallying support for small businesses, community memory, and heritage preservation.
Today, the Freccia Brothers name carries on through resilience, advocacy, and the loyalty of friends, family, and customers who refuse to let a century of history be erased. Guinevere’s journey represents both the pain of loss and the fire of reinvention—proof that a legacy can be uprooted, but never destroyed.
