Dub Life Dreams Come True
I come from a humble home, my grandfather had an auto body shop. My dad was Mr. Carpet & ran a flooring business.
I’m the middle son of five children. I have an older brother, older sister, younger sister, and younger brother.
At a young age, I had a fascination with Volkswagen beetles.
I don’t know why, but something about the shape has alwaysfascinated me.
I can look at them for hours, and honestly could never get sick of looking at Volkswagens.
As a young boy, I would spend all my allowance money in the magazine aisle
Hot VW’s VW Trends, and when I became a teenager European Car.
The first car I ever drove was a 78 Vw Rabbit they belonged to my older brother Brandon.
It was a salvage title vehicle that Poppa fixed in the shop and painted metallic green. I remember him being so proud of it when he dropped it off at our house and saying it was the only rabbit that was that color.
At about 12 years old, I taught myself how to drive a stick on that car I had worked out a deal with my parents to stay home from church so I could watch the WWF and Hulk Hogan. The temptation to drive that car here irresistible in one day I got in it and taught myself how to drive a stick shift. I had wrote some mini bikes and knew the concept of a clutch and shifting gears, but had never done it in an automobile. Getting that car to reverse was tricky. He had to push the shifter down, but I managed to get it into reverse and back it up out of the rocks in front of the house getting in in first gear was a different story I managed to shake the car back-and-forth and couldn’t get the clutch operate properly. I sat there for about 10 minutes thinking my parents were coming home from church and would see me in the car and the gig would be up, but after some persistence, I managed to get her into first gear and drive up the hill.
Freedom for the first time in my life I was mobile. I would drive that rabbit around the neighborhood and up to the corner and then walk across the street to 711 because I didn’t wanna drive on any major streets and get caught.
VWs have been my love my entire life, my fantasy was a pre-1967 green Lowrider Volkswagen beetle.
Because of my fascination for them, my little brother who’s 10 years younger than me had a Volkswagen beetle as his first car and has always owned a bug and I live vicariously through him. Even bottom said it’s so fine seat covers for an orange super that he had from so fine back in the year 2001 I remember paying $500 cash for those seat covers which I still have if anybody’s looking ( two tone gray twill with orange piping)
My little brother Reid has owned several beetles and has a Suite 63 right now. He has ran a club in Colorado EPDC eastern plains dub club going on 10 years. His fascination with Vw‘s is entirely my fault.
In the year 2000 I bought my first Volkswagen a blue 2017 Golf SEL.
It was a salvage title, which I named Gus after my grandfather who ran the body shop. It’s the nicest car I’ve ever owned the nicest golf you could get without it being a GTI. I could drive that car into the sunset and plan to.
In 2022 something miraculous happened.
I literally got a check in the mail unexpectedly from my best friend. He had sold his company and came into a lot of money, a company. I helped him start decades before.
I was shocked when I looked at the check and called him, he didn’t have much to say other than buy whatever you want
To be honest, I started looking for a rabbit or a caddy, the first car I ever drove was a rabbit and I love rabbit trucks my uncle had them my cousin had them my grandpa had them and ideally, I wanted one of those.
But when your dream car pops up, at a dream price, you drive your Golf 140mph across town to scoop it up
In 2022 I bought my dream car a Java Green 1965 Volkswagen beetle slammed to the ground with custom deep dish wheels painted orange my two favorite colors. I honestly believe it’s a miracle guys. I believe Jesus built my hot Rod and gave it to me the greatest gift I’ve ever been given.
The car was pretty roached when I got it but a great start.
In the last couple years, I’ve been through the entire car with the help of a couple awesome local mechanics that I’ve met and made friends with.
In 2023 I showed up at a show Volkswagen’s on the green 28.
It was a dream come true.
A couple hundred old Vw‘s and Vintage water pumps parked on the grass at an old airport. The vibe was amazing and suited me perfectly.
I started following the club that put that event on VWEC Volkswagen enthusiast Colorado.
While later, I saw a post that they were looking for people to show up at a club meeting and start talking about the next Volkswagens on the green. I love being a service. It’s my favorite thing is helping out…. I showed up at that garage. Help plan Volkswagens on the green 29 which happened in 2024 at Clement Park in Littleton Colorado…
I’ve been helping out with the club a lot and was asked to do the award ceremony at the end with my daughter, it was just magic guys. It was like a dream come true.
Not only that but my car when it’s the first trophy that day, the lawnmower trophy, the dope lowest static Volkswagen.
The president of the club at the time it had back surgery and couldn’t do a whole lot so I stepped up to the plate, organizing events and helping run things… I remember the treasure of the club and the head honcho really Bill Walker telling me one time Grant the president is the guy who acts like the president, and it really made me feel good.
Couple months ago in February, I was voted in as the new president of Volkswagen Enthusiasts of Colorado.
May 18 we had Volkswagens on the green 30 and it was absolutely massive 400 cars on the grass at Clement Park in Littleton CO
My car won Lawnmower for the second year in a row.
VWEC is the leading Colorado Volkswagen club.
We have events every month from clinics at the local Vw repair shops, to cruises, pool parties, roller skate parties, and just hanging out in parking lot.
In my personal life, I’m a father to two daughters & two grandsons.
Happily employed as an auto salesman at Castle rock Chevrolet GMC.
I love drawing & singing, but mostly Volkswagens & Jesus.
